Q: What is the EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch) and why does it require programming?

A: The EIS is a component of the DAS (Drive Authorization System). It has security data (FBS data) stored inside of it. Once drive authorization has been granted, the EIS plays a part in the vehicle's ignition system, and CAN BUS communication. Programming is necessary when replacing the EIS, adding new keys, or addressing DAS related issues.

Q: What is EIS "Cloning"?

A: A EIS clone is a direct copy of your original EIS. We use special tools to extract the security data from your original EIS, save it, then write it to a used donor EIS. The result, is an exact replica or "clone" of your original EIS.

Q: How do I know if my Mercedes-Benz EIS needs programming?

A: If you experience issues with starting your vehicle, key recognition problems, key turning mechanical issues, or warning lights related to the ignition system, it's necessary to have the EIS diagnosed.

My EIS was stolen/lost/damaged. Is there anything I can do to get a cloned EIS?

Yes. We can use data from your original Engine Control Module (ECM/ECU) to clone a donor EIS to your Mercedes-Benz. When your EIS is lost, stolen, or too damaged to get data from, new keys are required with your cloned EIS. The reason for this, is that the key password which is shared between your EIS and key FOBS, is accessible only through your original EIS.

Q: I have a FBS4 EIS, can you program / clone it?

A: No. FBS4 EIS and keys cannot be cloned / programmed. There are currently no aftermarket tools that accomplish this. The only solution for FBS4 EIS and key programming is the Mercedes-Benz Dealer.

Q: I have 2015 or newer Mercedes-Benz. Can you clone my EIS or program a key for me?

A: No. Any Mercedes-Benz vehicle newer than 2014 has FBS4 encryption technology. See the above question regarding FBS4. Some Mercedes-Benz vehicles switched to FBS4 encryption as of 2012. E Class, CLS Class, S Class, ML/GL Class all switched to FBS4 encryption in 2012.

Do I need to bring my Mercedes to a service center to clone my EIS?

No. We can clone your EIS on the bench. Meaning, you remove the EIS from your Mercedes, and send it in by mail.

What is the turnaround time for cloning my Mercedes-Benz EIS?

We can clone your EIS and send it back out to you the same day we receive it.

How do you program a Mercedes-Benz EIS?

With specialized tools we are able to read FBS/DAS data from an EIS, and then extract the key password. With these combined data, we can clone your original EIS to a donor unit.
